Étudier l’occupation d’une ville : les enjeux du PCR « Topographie générale et insertion territoriale de l’agglomération antique de Briga »

Abstract : The archaeological excavations carried out since 2006 on the site of “Bois-l’Abbé”, located in the town of Eu (Seine-Maritime), have made it possible to demonstrate that the site does not consist of an isolated sanctuary, as mentioned by previous researchers, but of an antique urban area called Briga, of which the extent at its peak in the early third century reached at least 65 ha. Following these discoveries, the collective research program (PCR) “Topographie générale et insertion territoriale de l’agglomération antique que Briga”, coordonated by Etienne Mantel (DRAC – SRA de Normandie) was initiated in 2018. This interdisciplinary programm aims to bring together specialist from different institutions (DRAC, Universities, INRAP and volonteers) in order to improve the knowledge about urban planing, origins, development and decline of this urban area which was unknown until 2006.
