One cannot adress the question of the refrain in the work of Adam de la Halle without discuting the term refrain itself, and, to a certain extent, the term rondeau/rondet. Without belaboring the theories developed and discuted by philologists since the end oh nineteenth century. Tha author would like to return to several points that are useful for understanding the process of citation.
