Produire la confiance: la fides dans la tradition topique médiévale

Abstract : The paper sheds light on the persistence, all along the Middle Ages, of the definition of the locus or of the topical argument coming from Boethius, in the line of Cicero: the argument is ratio rei dubiae faciens fidem, a mean or reason tu produce a belief about a thing doubtful. This definition goes on even after the rediscovery of the Topics of Aristotle. Such a conception of the argument implies an approach of the Topics by a cognitive psychology that comes and complete the proper Aristotelian and logical definition of the probable reasoning. This approach will remain alive at the basis of the dialectics of the Early Modern times
