De la cité romaine de Saldae à la fondation hammadide d’al-Nāṣiriyya (IIIe/IXe-Ve/XIe siècle) : histoire de Béjaïa, une ville en transition

Abstract : The Roman city of Saldae was last mentioned in the 5th century AD. After that, this place is scarcely mentioned until its refoundation by the hammadid power at the end of the 5th/11th century. Thus, very little is known about the history of the newly named city of Bejaïa. However, although the ruptures caused by the end of the Roman order and the Islamic conquest are revealed by toponymy, it appears that the occupation of the site was uninterrupted. Dynamized by the presence of an Andalusian community, Bejaïa then acquired maritime functions that grew gradually, preparing the ground for its late-medieval success.
