Abstract : James Cook’s three voyages from 1768 until his death in 1779 have generated a very large body of literature. Sourced from Cook’s original journals collected in Beaglehole’s four-volume edition, this article attempts to put into perspective the experience of sailors of the twenty-first century who analyse and question James Cook’s legacy.
