Valorisation d'objets bédouins et redéfinitions identitaires lors d'un moussem en Algérie
Résumé
This article analyzes the public valorization of Bedouin objects during a local festival (wacda or moussem) inn the region of the Ksour Mountains, in the Algerian Sanarían Atlas. It aims at showing the place and the role of certain objects, such as the tent (khaima), the rifle (mukahla) of the Bedouin horseman (fursân), the Bedouin tunic {lahbaya), and the values that they have in the process of redefining tribal identities and statutory intertribal relations. The article argues that these objects, most of which are regarded as prestige-bestowing possessions, have an important symbolic and political dimension. To publicly emphasize their importance amounts to a reaffirmation of their symbolic and political value.
