Abstract : After a long period of silence while modern archaeology had been discovering the Meroitic culture, Sai Island emerged as one of the main centers for the history of Middle Nubia during the late Antiquity. The discovery of a Meroitic settlement and later of a number of cemeteries led to several archaeological investigations, unfortunately never turned into a general synthesis on the period. Back in the field with a new team in 2009, archaeologists are now studying this important material and restart fieldwork on the 8-B-5.A necropolis.
