Un exemple de gestion du milieu humide en fond alluvial à l’âge du Fer à Bazoches-lès-Bray (Seine-et-Marne)

Abstract : In the Bassée, the Seine valley has two distinct environments that structure the countryside: gravel domes andpalaeochannels. This contrasted environment which is marshy in parts seems to have been settled since the middle Neolithic and especially during the Bronze and Iron Ages. The archaeological sites situated on the gravel domes are usually very eroded, however the palaeochannels with their organic fill contain exceptional palaeoenvironmental and archaeological data. They play an essential role in the understanding of human settlement of this area and must be considered closely linked to the archaeological sites on the gravel domes. The study of waterlogged timbers from the Bazoches-lès-Bray "La Rompure" site is in line with this philosophy: the site consists of lines of oak, elm, beech and alder stakes driven into the organic layers of the palaeochannel and associated with cut branches of hazel This wood, dated to a period between the middle of the 5th century BC and the beginning of the 4th century BC by dendrochronology are part of a real construction of wooden track ways and platforms.
