Marolles-sur-Seine, Le Grand Canton : organisation de l’espace et structures

Abstract : The ongoing study of Early Iron Age settlement in La Bassée has largely benefited the extensive stripping oftopsoil in the industrial gravel pits, which has opened up large areas to archaeological survey. For the extensive and very sparsely occupied sites situated around the Seine-Yonne confluence, it is still difficult to apprehend their organisation further than the tentative identification of small domestic units. Several sites of the area have been revisited using a recently developed local pottery typology that includes ware dated from the 9th to the 6th century BC (End of the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age). For one of these sites, Marolles-sur-Seine Le Grand Canton, which spans 18 hectares, the pottery typology has been crossed with information of the distribution of archaeological structures. The result of this study is the identification of chronologically distinct settlements of the Early Iron Age.
