La forme : une question de fond dans l’expression non figurative des sociétés sans textes

Abstract : The relevance of semiological approaches as currently practised to the study of Celtic iconography will be examined. This theoretical orientation is considered from the perspective of art history in general as well as in the light of some particular examples taken from the specialist literature. A new approach to form is developed, one better adapted to the discipline of archaeology while closely linked to art history and theory. This contrasts with that currently employed, which might be termed the "metaphor of language".
