La nécropole laténienne de Pottenbrunn (Basse-Autriche) comme miroir des relations Est-Ouest

Abstract : The bi-ritual cemetery of Pottenbrunn, SG St Pôlten, was excavated by the Bundesdenkmalamt (J.-W. Neugebauer) mainly in 1981-1982. It consists of 42 graves containing 45 individuals. Particularly striking are the numerous, mostly quadrilateral ditches which surround the graves. Twelve of the burials are cremations ; the remainder are inhumations. Grave 54 contained a hollow silvered bronze pendant with a double link-in-link chain. The shape of this pendant results from the transformation of tore terminals of Beine type in the form of a fused hollow pendant, found especially in the Marne but also in the Rhineland. There are signs in the Pottenbrunn cemetery during La Tène B1 of strong influences from the West, marked particularly by the occurrence of variants of Duchcov fibulae. Their distribution extends from Champagne to Bohemia, Moravia and Switzerland, and now may also be noted in Austria. In LT B2/C1 the Pottenbrunn cemetery is part of the 'Eastern Celtic' area, which developed its own forms within a consolidated economic and cultural context ; this is evident, for example, in sword chapes of Kôsd Type D. Further, one may also include here a sub-group of iron fibulae, the Pottenbrunn-Horny Jatov type, with high double-coiled spring with external chord.
