Adverbes anglais en –ly : attitudes émotionnelles et intersubjectivité en contexte

Abstract : In this chapter, we study the English-ly adverbs expressing emotional states by characterizing them semantically and in their syntactic distribution with the verbs according to corpus-based data. The main semantic feature of these adverbs is their semantic ambivalence deriving from their syntax and their contextual usage. In their high distribution with direct speech declarative verbs, they prove to be markers of intersubjectivity, a feature which ensures their combination with a large and heterogeneous range of verbs, such as verbs of perception, of movement, of position, etc. Résumé Nous étudions les adverbes anglais d'attitude émotionnelle en-ly en proposant une caractérisation de leur sémantisme et de leur combinaison avec les verbes à partir des données d'un corpus littéraire.
