La mise en place du protectorat britannique sur l’Égypte en 1914, une réforme de circonstance ?

Abstract : In December 1914, the British proclaimed a protectorate over Egypt, thirty-two years after the beginning of the occupation of the country by their soldiers and a month and a half after the outbreak of hostilities between the Ottoman Empire and the allied forces of the Triple Entente. The purpose of this study is to examine the circumstances under which the decision to proclaim a protectorate has been taken. A reformed status for Egypt is made necessary by the evolution of the international situation; the reform is also the result of a compromise that was achieved between the allies on the one hand and the Egyptian politicians on the other.
