La strate du sol d'une mégapole : observations localisées sur l'Anthropocène. Les couches issues des périodes préindustrielle et industrielle à Paris

Abstract : This article aims to evidence what a topo-historical method could bring to the observation of the long-term anthropic evolution of the urban ground. From a theoretical point of view, of urban soils are observed through two different angles. On the one hand, the analysis of territorial metabolism shows the materiality related to urban functioning - ie stocks and flows - and allows an understanding of the contemporary phenomenon of the production of the urban soil. On the other hand, stands the topographic analysis of the anthropic urban observed as a layer, which is common to all urban spaces. This layer includes a part of polluted soils, at the heart of this special issue. It can be defined as a volumetric object chronically underrepresented and then unavailable to morphological analysis. This resonates with the epistemological assumption of the underrepresentation of space verticality, and more generally with the lack of attention given to volume in geographical analysis as well as in urban topographical history. Anthropised soils are concerned by these remarks and have hence become invisible. To go further, it seems necessary to get rid of some urban representation ways, by using archival sources from urban scholar branches usually overlooked. This paper then suggests considering the existence of such sources in the Paris case, to use and interpret them. In the case of anthropic soils both concerned by urban and industrials processes, this method emphasizes the interest of a localized and temporalized test of the Anthropocene hypothesis.
