Un républicanisme social au XVIIIe siècle : l'exception française ?

Abstract : In the great European republican tradition, would France be an exception, in terms of the content it has given to its republicanism? And would this content be distinguished above all by its particular emphasis on the question of social justice and equal conditions? This is the double question facing the volume that has brought together historians, philosophers and politicians. The question of the existence of a specificity, or a fortiori, of a French exception, remains open at the end of the course proposed in the book. Nevertheless, it brings together certain elements that show that, through the call for popular sovereignty and the demand for political action in favour of more or less strong forms of egalitarianism, the French republican tradition takes on a particular radical character.
