Topic shifts in contrast: Ways to change the subject in French and German

We investigate discourse markers signaling topic shifts in French and German. With a parallel corpus study, we analyze c.8,000 occurrences of three English DMs and their equivalents in French and German. We thus identify a series of (typical and less typical) topic shifters in French and in German.
