Instantané d'un chantier hors-norme : la comptabilité de l’œuvre de Saint-Michel de Bordeaux (1486-1497)

Abstract : Between September 1486 and December 1497, the church of Saint Michael of Bordeaux has continuously kept accounts of its construction. Although they only provide detailed information on the expenses, they mostly cover the end of the isolated bell tower's construction, which at the time might have been Kingdom of France's tallest stone construction. The extraordinary context and accuracy of these accounts provide valuable information on the chronology, the human and material organization, the on-site management and the fabric administration. This exceptional document is of great value since it is one of the rare preserved testimonies written in medieval Occitan language. It has been known since the 18th century, but the lack of a published transcription has prevented the exhaustive exploitation of its data until now.
