Chaos als ästhetischer, mythologischer und metaphysischer Begriff bei Schelling

Abstract : In Schelling's work, the concept of chaos plays a twofold philosophical role: on the one hand, as the chaos of phenomena, giving rise to the experience of the sublime in nature, and, on the other hand, as the mythological figure of chaos that as unknowable ground precedes the luminous world of the Olympians. The article analyses the ways in which Schelling conceives of both meanings of chaos, not only for the purpose of thinking the shift from non-philosophy to philosophy, but also for the purpose of elaborating the very principle of philosophy.
