Déjouer les pronostics scolaires et les destins sociaux. Sur quelques représentations et usages de la filière Staps

Abstract : The aim of this article is to highlight the principles underlying Staps (Sports studies) orientation, which explain in part the reasons for its success but also its investment by graduates with a varied educational and social background. Beyond the statistical portrait of these candidates, the study of their educational and social trajectory provides information on the meaning given to this school pathways. It appears to the analysis that the Staps stream, by the singularities of its disciplinary content as well as its type of recruitment, presents itself as a way of reclassification for pupils experiencing the limits of the democratization school. It thus succeeds in maintaining the illusions of social ascension for some and keeping at a distance, for a time at least, the risks of a downgrade for others.
