L’inspiration musicale des créations calligraphiques de Catherine Denis

Abstract : Through a personal approach to Chinese calligraphy based on a solid training and its transposition into Latin letters, the French contemporary artist Catherine Denis relentless reflects on the writing gesture. This cultural conveyor insists on the concept of rhythm in calligraphic art, which is mainly kinetic, comparing it with music, which is her major inspiration. Thus, in her quest for a new written plastic art, she is nourished by her musical experience while meeting an inner impetus. Inspiration, for her, has an intuitive aspect as the result of a long concentration process: availability and entrustment let her experience a heightened sense of living and an acute awareness of the present moment, which are similar to the feelings of a musician or a composer.
