Résumé

This paper shows the probable antiquity of a myth of creation of the world, associating mammoth and serpent, one creating reliefs, the other creating terrestrial watercourses. The structure and integration in a pan-Eurasian background of two Evenk and Toungouse narratives both show an ancient origin of this myth, probably Paleolithic. Native American parallels corroborate the reconstruction and antiquity of Eurasian mythology, the mammoth being considered on both continents as a dangerous animal, master of animals, creator of relief, linked to water and to a reptile : these parallels could be explained by historical links dating back to a North American Paleolithic settlement. The results of the analysis will finally allow to propose a general interpretation of the Rouffignac’s rock art.
