Abstract : This introduction puts into perspective the effectiveness of gender equality and coeducation in education in Asian countries, based on contributions that use a multidisciplinary approach in order to highlight the different actors in the spaces of these countries. Based on case studies of educational systems and various fields observed in situ in Asia (China, Japan, Korea, India, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia), the article shows how gender plays a key role at the heart of the process of both spatial mobilities (games, organization of school spaces, migrations) and social mobilities (hierarchisation, representation, staging, social rise, transmission). It highlights the concrete reality of what boys and girls are experiencing daily during school life. Through the analysis of these different school and out-of-school places, we shall understand why the legal and legal devices that define gender equality/coeducation do not guarantee its application within the different spaces and time of schooling.
