“Quand la radio réveille les contes”. Temps du conte et temps des ondes

Abstract : The time of the folktale is defined by its performance. Yet, the fact that a tale is recorded and then transmitted over the radio places the teller in a very different temporal dimension since his narration is bound to be re-transmitted over and over again, even after he dies. In this article, the relationship between temporality and performance is examined on the basis of a case study – tale tellers on Radio Parana, a local radio station in Mali. After analyzing the impact this mode of performance has on the narrative and on the taleteller, the author discusses the patrimonial dimension of the radio on the tale.
