Taking a cue from a panel on Freedom of Expression held at IAMCR 2018 in Portland, Oregon where the question of what were the American Constitution First Amendment's contributions to freedom of expression and more in general, Communication Law around the world this panel seeks to explore what other Freedom of Expression regulation -at the national, regional and international level-, case law and Communication Law Theory can contribute in terms of discussing what Freedom of Speech and of the Press should mean in the United States today and in the future. The panel will also explore what contributions owed to the First Amendment still influence how Freedom of Expression is understood in the European Union today and where European Communication Law should head in the future.
