Le papyrus hiératique iatromagique n°47.218.2 du musée de Brooklyn

Abstract : Editing of the unpublished iatromagic papyrus of the Brooklyn Museum of Art 47.218.2. This manuscript contains a compendium of medico-magic formulas relating to the protection of pregnant women before and after childbirth, as well as the newborn. The project consisted of financing a mission to the BMA and thus constituted the final step necessary for the completion of its editio princeps: collation of the transcription of the text and study of the new fragments (about sixty) found between 2008 and 2013, repositioning in relation to the main text. This stay also allowed for agreement, with Paul O'Rourke (BMA), on the final editing plan (preface, introduction, description, transcription, translation, commentary [textual, mythological, medical], glossary, paleography). A general survey of all the papyrus fragments of the collection (± 100,000) revealed about 40 which belonged to the document which we were studying and which constitute elements of the first pages of the treaty but which are not contiguous with the current page x+I. The collation of the text was carried out anew. Colour photographic digital coverage was provided by the Brooklyn Museum of Art, as part of the partnership with the Museum.
