Ethnométhodologie et éducation

Abstract : Since the 1970s, new trends in research in the sociology of education have developed in the United States and England. These sociological approaches, known as ethnomethodology and interactionism, have been able to influence French research on educational phenomena, both through research methods they use, than by the theoretical background they contain. Indeed, they reflect a different vision of the social world, and a different practice of sociology. This book presents the different interactionist and ethnomethodological conceptions, as well as their application to the field of education, and questions the self-evident and routines hidden in the pedagogical practices. The author also explains his notion of affiliation - developed as an extension of the notion of habitus at Pierre Bourdieu, and that of a member at Harold Garfinkel - which he considers to be a process necessary for academic success. Finally, he invites us to reflect on the notion of the rule, which he believes should be a major concept of research in education since it is at the heart of learning processes. A large number of research works are analysed and commented on here, thus constituting a reference work for students and researchers in sociology and educational sciences, as well as for teachers who wish to have theoretical tools that allow them to reflect on the many problems they face in their practice.
