L’insostenibile “pesantezza” della saggezza: A proposito del baros/embaros di Munichia o sul sapere sacerdotale dell'uomo dotato di nous e phronêsis

Abstract : The mythical character Baros/Embaros, behind the proverb “I am embaros”, is linked with the double establishing of a hereditary and for life priesthood, and of the goat sacrifice in the Mounichia/Piraeus Artemis’ worship. The paper addresses the Embaros’ priestly knowledge. It seems like the sophistēs ek Thettalias’, the sons of Asclepius’and the Mounichia hiereus kathartēs ’ones. Probably Embaros meant either the “heavy/influential” or the “wise/sensible” man, the official title he received when joining the goddess’ service.
