Un autre Risorgimento. La formation du monde libéral dans le Royaume des Deux-Siciles (1815-1856), Rome, Collection de l'Ecole française de Rome, n°556, 2019, 520 p.

Abstract : Between the collapsing of the Napoleonic Empire in 1815 and the raising of the « Neapolitan question » as an international diplomatic issue in the mid-1850s, a coherent way of politicization grew in the continental part of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, associating the revendication of political freedom with the opposition to the Bourbon monarchy. By crossing the Bourbon administrative documentation, the liberals’ personal writings and their political productions, this book aims to study that political movement from its stakeholders’ point of view. It constituted a reticulated and disparate civil society of opposition, much more anti-absolutist than ideologically liberal. Through the local, national and transnational ways of liberal politicization in the pre-unitarian Mezzogiorno, this book would like to enlighten the peculiarity of the Meridional Risorgimento, between support and resistance to the Italian nation-building and reappropriations of such a process.
