Indispensability Arguments and Environmental Care
Arguments d'indispensabilité: l'idée d'un care environnemental
Argomenti dell'indispensabilità: l'idea di una cura ambientale
Résumé
In her influential article ``What do Women Want in a Moral Theory'', Annette
Baier defends care ethics against impartialist moral theories. She argues
that impartialists cannot account for the perpetuation of moral
values from one generation to the next, without a \emph{loan} to care
values. In this light, care values appear as indispensable.
We extend the scope of this argument by applying it to environmental
issues. An argument similar to Baier's shows the indispensability of
environmentalist values.
