Ενα υποπτο «χασμα» στον Διοδωρο (XV, 45, 2): Ο Τιμόθεος και η ανάμειξή του στα πολιτικά πράγματα της Ζακύνθου

Abstract : In this article, we try to reconsider the passage XV, 45, 2, of Diodorus Siculus, concerning the Athenian general Timotheüs during his campaign in the Ionian Sea, and his interference in the civil war of the Zacynthians. Our research is based on the study of the original manuscript of this text and of the most ancient codices Patmiacus 50 (P), saec. XI, and Marcianus gr. 375 (M), saec. XI. This study proves that the «lacuna» supposed by Jean Le Paulmier (18th century) and accepted by the majority of the scholars does not exist. The re-examination of this passage shows then that Timotheüs has collaborated not with the banished Zacynthians, partisans of democracy, but with the oligarchs. This case proves also that «history» does not follow always established plans, but that political interests can play a leading role in the relations between Greek cities
