Économie-monde et civilisation russe selon Fernand Braudel. Un dialogue entre historiens français et soviétiques

Abstract : This paper aims to examine Fernand Braudel’s vision of the Russian space. The role played by Braudel (1902-1985) in the invention of French-style area studies and the promotion of east-west relationships is considered in the context of the history of a politicized and unequal dialogue between French and Soviet historians. The paper shows how Braudel’s analysis of the Russian world-economy from the 16th to 18th centuries and of Russian civilization prompted an innovative shift in the spatial analysis that is far removed from the traditional west to east perspective. This focus went quite unnoticed due to the shadow of Marxism?
