La tombe du premier âge du Fer de Saint-Martin-de-Colombs à Fabrègues (Hérault)

Abstract : This seventh century BC tomb was discovered in 1993, in Saint- Martin-of-Colombs at Fabrègues, Herault. Research here allows us to fill a gap in our understanding of Early Iron Age funerary practices in the littoral area of the Eastern Languedoc. The remains of a cremated woman were deposited in the Urn in rough anatomical order. The bone fragments were mixed with bracelets, and the urn closed with a cup. This site provides a rare example of a protohistoric adult in the south of France where we are confident in our recognition of its sex. Consequently, this tomb enhances our understanding of a limited corpus as we are able to confirm the sexual-symbolic value of certain objects.
