Poétique de l’ordinaire : les autres figures du discours

Abstract : As it once was said, «a figure of speech would be a mistake if it wasn’t deliberate». The problem is that neither rhetoric nor linguistics or semiotics are of any help when it comes to determining the degree of intentionality underlying a stylistic device. Especially when - in the exchange between speaker and listener - in addition to the intention the speaker gives to his own speech, he adds the intention for the listener to believe the one that is ascribed to him. Speaking never is neutral; listening not the more so. The study of some non-intentional figures of speech found in non-poetic discourse after all shows how pleonastic the expression «poetic discourse» is.
