L’espace mental d’Henry Farman : Corps et sports mécaniques à la Belle Époque

Abstract : A strange “mental space” seems to have taken shape, in France, from 1890s, around the new practices of locomotion and motor sports. Capable of modifying the capacities of the human race, bicycle, automobile, plane were then associated to the science and to the industry in the same sports adventure, aiming to be at the forefront (tip) of the modernism. Inside this « French Belle Epoque of the running (race) in the progress », the airline pilot Henry Farman is going to have an exemplary biography in the heart of the first long-distance races, cycle and automobile (from 1891 till 1907) and beginings of the aviation (from 1908 till 1911).
