Quoi de neuf chez les molécules-machines ? L’incroyable aventure des nanovoitures

Abstract : This article focuses on the recent evolution of a particular field of nanosciences and nanotechnology, molecular nanomachines, through the prism of an exceptional event whose preparation mobilized the efforts of researchers with particular intensity: the first international nanocar race in April 2017. It traces the genesis of these objects, explains the reasons for the organization of the race, presents a few episodes and reflects on the significance of this event: are we dealing with a process of “gamification” of a technoscience suffering from a lack of socio-economic legitimacy and scientific relevance? Here we argue that something else is at stake, which does not exclude knowledge production, but inscribes it in a new—technophanic—way of carrying out experiments.
