Proximité professionnelle et distance scolaire : les jeunes ouvriers qualifiés et leurs trajectoires

Abstract : Based on a qualitative survey done in an automobile company, the article herein analyses qualified workers’ particular school backgrounds and their views regarding school. Three types of school backgrounds, which are inseparably three ways to view their own career pathways in relation to their present situations, can be detected: those who “barely made it through”, those who “failed in college” and the “best of those who have been turned away”. Those different types of school backgrounds are the basis of an internal hierarchical system within the group of qualified workers that raises the question of subjective unity in that social class.
