Dino Buzzati et Stefano Caberlot : crise d'auteur, crise du personnage

Abstract : Stefano Caberlot, scrittore is a novel that was published posthumously in 1971 as a part of the Il regimento parte all’alba collection. It is a story of a man, a writer, in crises. He reaches the end of his life, he knows he has to die but this feeling of disorientation is not new for him. Death has always worried him and that is the reason why, through all his existence, he was tempted to exorcise this feeling by telling the adventures of people who are close to death. Is there a relation between this protagonist and Buzzati who was seriously sick at the time he was writing his novel ? The article analyses how the crises of the main character transforms into a real crises of the author by bringing into focus how Stefano Caberlot – a metapersona – becomes the symbol of Buzzati’s reflection on the concept of writing, on the death of the author and on the possible survival of literature.
