Conflicting political preferences before the 2017 presidential election (France)

In line with works on the formation of electoral choices, we use pre and post election data from the Dynamob panel to highlight how voters can express, before the 2017 presidential elections, preferences for multiple candidates, and sometimes conflicting preferences. It is shown that these bizarre preferences are, however, consistent with general political orientations and with the votes declared in the first round by interviewees. These preferences are politically significant facts that ought to be explained.

Dans la ligne des travaux qui s’intéressent à la formation des choix électoraux, nous utilisons des données pré et post électorales du panel Dynamob pour mettre en évidence comment des enquêtés peuvent exprimer, avant le scrutin présidentiels de 2017, des préférences pour plusieurs candidats, et parfois des préférences contradictoires. On montre que ces préférences bizarres sont cependant en cohérence avec des orientations politiques générales et avec les votes déclarés au premier tour. Ces préférences sont donc des faits politiquement significatifs qu’il faudrait expliquer.
