La barrière ne fera pas le niveau : La sélection à l'université : une fausse solution à un problème mal posé

Abstract : Higher education is usually mapped according to a series of oppositions, such as short versus long programs, academic versus vocational training, or selective versus open-access courses. However, these distinctions are not only inaccurate, but they also support incorrect statements about the current state of higher education. Proposals calling for selective admission to universities are among these recurring diagnoses. This article aims to discuss the relevance of the alleged dichotomy between selective and open-access programs, and to question some preconceived notions, such as the identification of selection with elitism or coopting, or the equation of dropping out with failure.
