Abstract : Final year vocational students and, more broadly, working-class students have met difficulties in using application software for assignment management in higher education (APB in the past, today Parcoursup). This article shows that these difficulties come from a discrepancy between two ways of considering and expressing the academic and vocational future, each one being based on a specific logic. Far from constituting a neutral and transparent support for students’ choices, the APB application imposes a singular language of these choices (that we have called the "formal logic" of orientation, inspired by Basil Bernstein) that will favour those who speak the same language (students of superior origin mainly) and will estrange or disqualify the practices and representations of those who carry another logic, which we have called the "public logic" of orientation.
