Frantz Fanon et la décolonisation des savoirs

Abstract : This article addresses the issue of decolonizing knowledge by way of an analysis of Frantz Fanon’s work. Relying on the assumption that epistemic decolonization is rooted in a double movement of rupture and renewal, disconnecting and re-appropriation of the (ex-)occupier’s knowledge, five methods of displacement of “European thought” are identified in Fanon: the appropriation and deepening of the European self-critical tradition; the adoption of the colonized’s (psychological and cognitive) perspective; the geo-political (re)location of theoretical discourses; the subversion of the (Western) order of the discourse; the theoretical “regression”. As a conclusion, it is shown that Fanon gives rises to a postcolonial phenomenology, which is still the only one of its kind.
