« La piété du Perse “barbare”. Modélisations chrétiennes en milieu sassanide »

Abstract : The image of the Sasanian Persian king in Syriac sources reflects both contempt and admiration. This perception deals with reshaped and even idealized representation according to cultural imperatives and traditional models. Condemning the “Persian Barbarian” means rejecting the official religion of the empire, considering mazdaeism to be a form of paganism. From this point of view, descriptions in hagiographical and historiographical literature enabled persecuted Christian communities to put on the king of kings their religious ideal.
