De nouvelles (co)occurrences pour le Novum Glossarium Mediae Latinitatis. Le traitement d’un mot fréquent : l’exemple de TEMPUS

The recent development of the textual corpora, and the emergence of first statistical analysis tools for the Medieval Latin language allow for a significant renewal of traditional lexicographical methods which have been hitherto based on tedious manual processing of millions of paper slips. For the first time, by analysing thousands of the occurrences, it became practically possible to deal in a scientific manner with the words of high frequency and to demonstrate their relations within the linguistic context. Taking as the example the word Tempus ‘time’, we will show how this approach can contribute to the process of writing an entry for the Novum Glossarium Mediae Latinitatis, the European dictionary of Medieval Latin, and facilitate investigation into the nature of the « semantic field » of the word in question.
Le développement conjoint des corpus textuels de latin médiéval et des outils d'analyse statistique adaptés à cette langue permet d'engager un renouvellement complet des méthodes lexicographiques traditionnelles. Il rend envisageable, en effet, le traitement des mots les plus fréquents, en faisant apparaitre les rapports qu'ils entretiennent avec leur entourage lexical. A partir d'un exemple concret, nous montrerons comment ce type d'approche peut enrichir la rédaction d'un article du Novum Glossarium Mediae Latinitatis, dans la perspective de reconstruire des champs sémantiques.
