Les phrases de Marcel Proust

Abstract : Analysis of sentence lengths in Marcel Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu. Counting standards and the various available measures are presented. For most of his reading time, the reader of this novel is confronted with very long and syntactically-complex sentences. A comparison with other writers shows that these sentences are atypical but not unique and that some of their characteristics can be observed in a number of other works, some of which are cited in the Recherche du temps perdu.
