Introduction: Expérience littéraire et efficacité rituelle

Abstract : The efficiency of literature as an experience of creation, as well as of reception, can be analysed in terms of ritual effectiveness: as a diachronic sequence of actions, a distribution of roles, an organized structure of values, as resources in touch with a purpose, and as a communication system. The ritual impact depends upon some internal aspects of the text (how does it determine the function of the author, the place of the reader and the way they interact) and upon some contextual aspects (the values and legitimating modes activated). This anthropological and semiotic approach to the literary phenomenon involves some too often neglected matters: the emotional and sensorial experiences involved. The article gives the theoretical frame that allows understanding the several contributions of the volume as particular illustrations of the topic.
