Plaques-boucles d’époque wisigothique conservées au Musée Episcopal de Vic

Abstract : This paper publishes 18 objects preserved at the Museu Episcopal de Vic, a rich collection with several exceptional objects such as an inscribed plaque and a prong or buckle tongue. The buckles are arranged in two groups: a Visigothic one, with the liriform objects inspired by Byzantine models and largely documented in the 8th century of our Era in the Iberian Peninsula and southern Gaul; and a Burgundian group, with rectangular plaques with rich figurative decoration. Although only for five of the objects an attested provenance is known, from several places in Catalonia, the objects provide a representative sample of the 6th-7th century clothing accessories and of the various influences, exchanges and relations concerning the high Middle Ages societies in this period.
