Teko aguyjei, “derechos”, ‘vida buena’, un concepto político central de las proclamas y cartas del general Belgrano traducidas al guaraní

Abstract : The translations to guaraní of proclamations, letters and offices of the general Belgrano sent to the naturals of the missions, the Paraguayans, to his army and the Paraguayan authorities in 1810 were carried out by litterate indigenous of the missions. To translate "rights", "happiness", "good", "dignity" but also "promotions, awards and benefits", they make use of the word aguyjei. The semantic history of this word in previous colonial texts reveals that it was used in the daily life of the missions to talk about integrity, prosperity and beauty of the villages, churches and farms as about the health and dignity of persons. In the catholic register, aguyjei served to venerate the saints and express holiness or spiritual perfection. Our hypothesis is that the versions in Guaraní, transformed daily senses of aguyjei into a political concept. It concentrates its expectations for a good life, prosperous and dignified, of which they have been deprived by a few ones that gave themselves a good and comfortable life at the expense of their sweats. Today, the word is central to the religious life of several indigenous Guaraní communities but has no political uses.
