Goras, sanglier ou jeune lion (ou onagre) ?

Résumé

In ancient onomastics, animal names were sometime used as personal names and are good examples of complex interrelations between languages. Such is the name Goras, found in Greek and Latin inscriptions of the Roman Near and of Iran. It can be a transcription of a Semitic animal name with the meaning "Young Lion" or of at least two Iranian animal names "Boar" or "Wild Ass". The paper focuses as well on related names to show interplay between cultures and languages.
