[After its beginnings appeared in the nineteenth century, the historical geography reaches full maturity with Roger Dion. According to a similar path, and after various pioneering works, the "annunciation" of the historical demography is due to Louis Henry in 1953, and the child is born in 1958 with a prototype of the method of stripping of exploitation of the old civil status.
Since then, the enrichment of historical geography by demographic knowledge has diversified considerably, thanks to the multiplication of methods allowing the exploitation of written or unwritten sources. Archaeological progress provides a second set for estimating populations from the examination of architectural remains, while knowledge of food or living conditions of populations enhances our historical approach to space. Then the essential progress comes from new techniques such as the use of X-rays or DNA analysis.]
Après ses prémisses apparues au XIXe siècle, la géographie historique atteint sa pleine maturité avec Roger Dion. Selon un cheminement semblable, et après divers travaux pionniers, « l’annonciation » de la démographie historique est due à Louis Henry en 1953, et l’enfant naît en 1958 avec un prototype de la méthode de dépouillement de d’exploitation de l’état civil ancien.
Depuis, l’enrichissement de la géographie historique par la connaissance démographique s’est considérablement diversifié, grâce à la multiplication des méthodes permettant d’exploiter des sources écrites ou non écrites. Les progrès archéologiques fournissent un second ensemble permettant d’estimer les populations à partir de l’examen des restes architecturaux, tandis que la connaissance des conditions de nourriture ou de vie des populations améliore notre approche historique de l’espace.
