Introduction: Technologies of Doubt in Law and Ritual
Résumé
This book is based on a panel of the same title, which took place during the 12th European Association for Social Anthropology (EASA) Biennal conference at Université Paris Ouest, Nanterre, in July 2012. This introduction explains the ideas behind the EASA panel and summarizes the issues raised by the chapters that follow. First, however, it examines ways in which notions of doubt and states of doubting have hitherto been understood in various academic disciplines, including, of course, law and social science.
